Bel-Ray has a reputation for not only being best in class, but also first to market with innovative product technology. The evolution of the next generation of mining equipment mandates next generation lubrication technology. Bel-Ray’s top tier, open gear lubricants are stronger and more fortified than ever. Molylube® SF100 Semi-Synthetic Open Gear Lubricant, Molylube® SF100 OG Open Gear Lubricant and Molylube® Gear Tac Tacky Open Gear Lubricant have been upgraded to exceed the most demanding equipment and OEM specifications.
- Molylube® SF100 Semi-Synthetic Open Gear Lubricant is a top tier, grease-type open gear lubricant. It has a semi-synthetic base fluid and an aluminum complex thickener, and it offers the highest level of Extreme Pressure, anti-wear and retention performance. There is a grade of Molylube® SF100 Semi-Synthetic Open Gear Lubricant for all point of application temperatures between -50oC and +50oC.
- Molylube® SF100 OG Open Gear Lubricant is a top tier, grease-type open gear lubricant. It offers all of the high performance features of the Molylube® SF100 Semi-Synthetic Open Gear Lubricant in a mineral oil based product. There is a grade of Molylube® SF100 OG Open Gear Lubricant for all point of application temperatures between -5oC and +35oC.
- Molylube® Gear Tac Tacky Open Gear Lubricant is a high viscosity, semi-synthetic open gear compound. Its high viscosity promotes exceptional film formation and maintenance for both rolling and sliding contacts. The product offers the highest level of Extreme Pressure, anti-wear and retention performance. There is a grade of Molylube® Gear Tac Tacky Open Gear Lubricant for all point of application temperatures between -25oC and +50oC.

Recently, a well-known mining machine manufacturer upgraded their machine design significantly, making advanced lubricants necessary. Bel-Ray met the challenge to provide upgraded open gear lubricants that exceeded the machine design requirements.
To prevent premature wear of the equipment, and to provide customers with the latest open gear lubricant technology, Bel-Ray upgraded their already successful open gear lubricants. Important upgrades include:
- Additional grades of open gear lubricant with base oil viscosities to meet the demands of the new design. The viscosity standard for seasonal open gear lubricants used to lubricate external systems such as rotating components, dipper sticks and crowds will remain unchanged. New grades of open gear lubricant with higher base oil viscosities have been developed and will be used to lubricate applications inside the machinery room such as the hoist pinions and gears.
- Load carrying capabilities have increased. The Four Ball EP Test Load Wear Index of Molylube® Gear Tac Tacky Open Gear Lubricant was increased by more than 30% to exceed the requirements of all OEM specifications. Increased load carrying capabilities mean less gear tooth wear and extended component life.
- The level of molybdenum disulfide has increased, which helps to reinforce the lubricating film, making it more durable. The increase in molybdenum disulfide also reduces the lubricant’s coefficient of friction, reducing wear, operating temperature and energy consumption.

Consulting with Bel-Ray’s USA based Research and Development team early in the specification development process, the OEM set the standard for open gear lubricant base oil viscosity. Bel-Ray mining open gear lubricants, Molylube® SF100 Semi-Synthetic Open Gear Lubricant, Molylube® SF100 OG Open Gear Lubricant and Molylube® Gear Tac Tacky Open Gear Lubricant, exceed this standard.
As in all areas of mining lubrication, Bel-Ray open gear lubricant technology, Research and Development, and field capabilities set the industry standard. Machine operators can be confident that they are using Bel-Ray’s superior mining products and services at a cost effective price. As our partner in quality and success, we care about your equipment and bottom line as much as you do. Bel-Ray is committed to you and the relentless pursuit of ultimate lubrication technology.
